A scorpion was wandering along the bank of a river, wondering how to get to the other side.
Suddenly he saw a turtle. He asked the turtle to take him across the river.
The turtle said, “No. If I do that, you’ll sting me and I’ll drown.”
The scorpion assured him, “If I did that, we’d both drown.”
The turtle thought about it and finally agreed.
So the scorpion climbed up on his back and the turtle began to swim.
As they started across the river, the scorpion tried to sting the turtle but couldn’t get through his hard shell.
The scorpion tried again and again until after many failures he stopped.
When they safely reached the other side. the turtle turned to the scorpion and said,
“Why did you do that? You would have drowned too.”
“I just couldn’t help it,” said the scorpion. “It’s my nature.”
The turtle replied, “Then it’s a good thing I came along…
it’s my nature that saved you from drowning.” Moral of the story:
Sometimes it is our own Nature that gets in the way.
